A series of low level α/β counting system have been developed and can be supplied to users now. The flow counter tube (proportional counter chamber) and the guard tube are specially designed. The thin window of the measure tube is up to 2μm and window size gets to Ø60mm, so it has larger efficiency and lower energy α/β particle can be detected. A cap type guard tube and a lead shied chamber are designed do decrease background. The system is PC controlled, and the windows software is very convenient to users. It is one of the best low-level instruments in the world.
Application of the Instrument:
The instrument is employed in the entire field of radiation protection for measurement of simultaneous α and β radiation in water, air, soil, ore and foods et al.
Characteristics:
1.Newest computer and electron technique has been used in the
instrument; both the strong ability and user’s friendly interface are
convenient to users.
2.A diameter Ø60mm and thickness 2μm counter window is designed, so it
has a large measurement area, larger efficiency and lower energy α/β
particle can be detected. The detect efficiency >40% to 14C β
particle, the detect efficiency >80% to 241Am α particle. The
instrument even could be used to measure radiation of 3H.

3.The advanced methods and skills for data processing are applied; many
works can be performed automatically, as well as measurement of normal
samples, HV control, output report, measurement and display of plateau
curves.
4.The flow counter tube has a good characteristic: The plateau
length>100V and slope<2.5% for 14C measurement. For X-ray produced by
55Fe or 3H the plateau length>300V and slope<2.0%. The plateau
length>300V to 241Am α-particle.
5.The device can automatically differentiate α and β particles:
Spillover (α to β): <1.0%(210Po)
Spillover (β to α): <0.1%(90Sr-90Y)
6.Instrument α background ≤0.0017cm-2min-1, β background ≤0.0354
cm-2min-1, and the backgrounds can be subtracted automatically by
software.
7.The instrument has full functions for different applications and
works stably. The instrument has been used in The 9th Institute of
Nuclear Science and The Bang fu Sanitation and Anti-epidemic Station
for a long time, in fact the abilities are better then the given
specifications.
8.A entire set of standard radio-source can be supplied.
